I originally wanted to start blogging for purely selfish reasons: to promote my own endeavors. I'm the frontwoman of a band, Sylvana Joyce + The Moment, and like any indie band who's desperate for clout, we've been abusing Google for the next way "in".
But as I began to collaborate with other musicians and stepped a bit outside the "every man for himself" world most artists find themselves in, I noticed something larger at play going on with the music industry and how artists are dealing with the changes, and so, rather than staying mum, I thought I'd start sharing my observations in the NYC indie world. There will be rants, information hubs, album/concert reviews, and an insane amount of opinion and righteousness, but most importantly, love and passion for this thing we call music and anything you think a musician would be interested in reading about, particularly anyone interested in the New York City Scene.
I'm not going to be "fair". I'm going to have favorites. I'm going to plainly say that something rocks or sucks, and I'm going to write why. It's going to feel like gossip and you might feel like looking over your shoulder while checking my latest posts so you can avoid the scrutiny of your peers. But that's okay, because between you and me, you know I'm gonna lay it out. Even if you get on my bad side, there's always an opportunity to get on my good side. So play. Play your heart out. Promote. Do what you do. And come tell me, because chances are, I'll already be listening. I got you, B.
